Bing Chat for All Browsers Widespread Unavailability Incident (April 23誠鉉)

No longer working on Chrome (gives "Open in Microsoft Edge" window), Issue #74, anaclumos/bing-chat-for-all-browsers

The Problem

  • A lot of people can still use Bing with . Unfortunately that includes my friends, so we could not replicate it.
  • But the number of people reporting being blocked spiked.
  • Possibly Bing slowly rolling out a new kind of browser detection. We are still determining what this is at the moment.
  • Some said the Chrome/ version did not work but a manual user-agent change worked. Others said it did not. For these few users, none of the methods provided worked except native Edge.

What went wrong?

After 12 hours of investigation, I found that Bing added a somewhat proprietary header that encodes the User Agent: UserAgentReductionOptOut. After faking that as well, it now works again.

My Bing Chat extension had global unavailability for the past 12 hours. It's now fixed.
