I always wanted to create a social group for my core audience, but Discord was too sassy...

Matrix is an open-source protocol for secure, decentralized, real-time communication.

• It carries instant messaging, VoIP, and even the Internet of Things (IoT).
• The Matrix.org Foundation, a nonprofit, maintains the project and its reference implementations.
• People talk through decentralized servers called "home servers." A home server stores and syncs the chat history, and anyone can host one, whether an individual, an organization, or a third-party provider.
• It uses end-to-end encryption, so conversations and user data stay away from unauthorized access.
• The big plus is bridges. Matrix talks to other platforms like Slack, IRC, or even email, so people on different platforms can still reach each other.
• You can use an existing Matrix client like Element to chat securely with others on the network.
