Hey πŸ‘‹πŸ»

Intro

Welcome to my research note. I have extensively studied the topic of Personal Knowledge Management and envisioned an online source of truth that firmly integrated my projects and research. Here, you will find books I'm reading, articles I'm analyzing, and topics that grasped my interest. You can take a look at my blog post, or Research Note: Publishing Digital Brains. This section will consist of English and Korean notes unless I randomly decide to learn a new language. I do not intend to translate the notes, considering the scale. If you want internationalized content, check out my blog section.

Key Ideas

What does moving from mindless consumption to mindful creation look like? β€” Building a Second Brain

It’s hard to write notes that are worth developing over time. These principles help: β‘  Evergreen notes should be atomic β‘‘ Evergreen notes should be concept-oriented β‘’ Evergreen notes should be densely linked β‘£ Prefer associative ontologies to hierarchical taxonomies β‘€ Write notes for yourself by default, disregarding audience. This concept is enormously indebted to the notion of a Zettelkasten. See Similarities and differences between evergreen note-writing and Zettelkasten. - Andy Matuschak

Basic Rules for Note-taking

This PKM will not follow outliner UX. I believe in the potential of freeform text that flows. Also, I plan to construct a PKM closer to Britannica rather than Wikipedia β€” make each note a case study rather than an encyclopedia entry.

  • ASAP: As Short As Possible.
  • Keep the note Loosely folder-ed.
    • For personal use-case, I'd suggest simply putting the entire content into one mega folder.
    • assets, books, journals, notes...
  • Do not make a data pile.
    • All content should retain its brevity.
    • I need to review them.
    • That is, in general, a page-length document should manifest within a sentence.
    • Rule of thumb
      • articles β†’ summarize into 3-5 sentences max.
      • book & documentaries β†’ summarize and write it in my language, in 1-3 paragraphs.
      • journals & papers β†’ summarize in my language, in 3 paragraphs.
  • More to be added

Nerdy Details

  • This website fetches contents in my Obsidian vault, then builds it on top of a heavily customized TypeScript Docusaurus running React.
  • It uses Vercel for frontend building and Cloudflare for caching and distributing.
  • I used several PKMs, notably Roam, Logseq, Notion, and Craft. I am also a contributor to Logseq. I am currently using Obsidian, but I might switch to a new one soon.
