They are literally building a fab right next to this site as we speak.
Idaho has the country's lowest vaccination rates, about 75% for measles, the biggest gender pay gap, weak LGBT protections, and anti-immigrant sentiment. I do not see how a research hub there attracts people beyond straight white guys who accept those conditions.
The CEO announcing this was not born in America. I would not be surprised if people who think enforcement only targets "the bad ones" are shocked when citizenship rules reach further.
Boise is clean, safe, affordable, and has easy access to trails, mountains, and rivers. I lived there, and the Micron HQ was diverse.
I do not get why this goes in Boise rather than near ex-Intel workers and a deeper labor pool. The release has no Idaho voices, not even the governor or University of Idaho faculty.
Micron was founded in Boise, its headquarters and much of its developer and research staff are there, and it already has several fabs on the same land outside town. This adds to that campus.
The release explains Boise poorly. Semiconductor people know Micron is based there, but the public does not, and the listed 408 contact numbers point to San Jose rather than Boise's 208 area code.
