MiniMax releases open-weight H3 video model, undercuts ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 on price
MiniMax launched its new H3 video generation model with open weights, positioning it as a low-cost rival to ByteDance's Seedance 2.0.
MiniMax says H3 outperforms Seedance 2.0 on some tasks, according to the company's own comparisons.
MiniMax states the open-weight release is meant to "support the open-source community" and work across a "broad range of hardware".
The move follows a wider trend of Chinese AI firms competing on price and openness, as Goldman Sachs has separately suggested some Chinese developers could shift toward "paid weights" licensing instead.
The release adds to recent debate over open-source AI models from China, following controversy around Moonshot's Kimi K3 and US discussions on restricting open-weight models.
