Videographer friends have wanted this exact workflow: sync A and B cameras, segment a full interview, then assemble highlights against an outline. That is production grunt work, not asking AI to supply taste.
People are already moving to tools like Palmier Pro and FableCut for AI-assisted video editing, so Resolve had pressure to add something similar.
I see these integrations as more programmatic APIs for users. That is useful even if I never use an AI assistant directly.
If Resolve gets this right, it saves time on organization, file collection, renaming, and finding missing media. Editing has a lot of project-management work that AI is suited to handle.
I would rather Blackmagic add proper codec support to the free Linux version, where Windows already has support, than prioritize agent integration.
This looks unusually dull for a Resolve release. I do not see much I want to try, though it is only a .1 release.
I have already used Claude Code with Resolve by generating imported .otio files, writing Lua scripts for Resolve's scripting engine, and using Computer Use. Opus could make edits, though Computer Use consumed a lot of tokens.
I built a program with AI that transcribes video, reads the transcript, and chooses cuts. It does a decent job and saves me substantial time.
I used IntelliScript with a Claude-edited subtitle export. Resolve turns the changed subtitle track into a cut video version, and it works fairly well.
I helped my girlfriend use a scripting-engine MCP server with Codex to locate media that had moved and relink the project. It saved a lot of manual work.
Resolve is difficult for beginners, especially color grading and nodes, so agents could help people learn and handle basic setup tasks. Asset management and timeline setup are different from the taste needed for a larger edit.
I would not say human experience and taste cannot be replaced. It is fair to say AI is not there today, but claims about what it will never replace are too certain.
Automating monotonous tasks can also remove variety and downtime from work. Beginners may end up paying a chatbot company to compensate for weaker software design.
I edit on Debian and Resolve is stable enough for all-day work, but Linux still lacks VST3, JACK, and Fairlight MIDI control-surface support. I have to move audio work into Reaper.
I have run Resolve on Manjaro through the AUR with multi-monitor and GPU acceleration, but Linux setup can be finicky. Linux Mint also had codec gaps such as MP3 and WebM decoding, which required re-encoding media first.
