Google releases Gemini desktop app for Windows with Alt + Space shortcut

I wonder whether this becomes closer to Codex or Claude Code, able to work across local files and tasks instead of being only a desktop chatbot.

Google already has Antigravity for computer-wide work. I can see Gemini and Antigravity being merged eventually.

Google apps tend to fragment and then get killed. I would give this one a year or two at most.

The delayed Windows release makes me question the management vision. Why did it not launch alongside the Android and iOS apps?

I do not know who this app is for. Google's AI apps have been too frustrating for me to use.

It is not terrible, but Claude Desktop's GUI has set my expectations. Google's AI products feel confusing by comparison.

It does not work on Windows on ARM machines. Did Google deliberately block Windows on ARM?

I have seen browser resource use and stuttering in both Firefox and Chromium, and the desktop app seems somewhat better. I still do not get why Google has not combined Antigravity, Gemini, and Spark into one app.

I cannot believe the blog post has no screenshots. The download page has aspirational images and one brief clip, but barely shows the actual interface.
