Alibaba Releases Closed-Weight Wan3.0 Video Model With 30-Second 1080p Generation
Alibaba released Wan3.0 on 24 August 2026 as a closed-weight video model, ending the open-weight release approach used for Wan2.7 and earlier versions.
Access to Wan3.0 requires an application through Alibaba Cloud Model Studio or Qwen Cloud; Alibaba plans a members-only wan.video consumer site that is not yet open.
Wan3.0 generates a continuous video of up to 30 seconds at up to 1080p, doubling Wan2.7's 15-second limit, and accepts text, images, audio, video, web pages, PDFs, and slide decks as inputs.
Alibaba charges $0.05 per second at 480p, $0.10 at 720p, and $0.20 at 1080p, or $12 for one 1080p minute; the article compares this with Google's Veo 3.1 at $0.40 per second for standard service.
The release coincided with a $10.2B Hong Kong share placement for AI investment, while Alibaba reported cloud and AI revenue up 45% year over year to 48.44B yuan and quarterly net profit down 75%.
