Google Ships Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar, Real-Time Video Personas for Enterprise Agents

Google introduced Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar, pairing near real-time video generation with speech so a conversational agent can talk through a dynamic visual persona with precise lip-syncing and natural expressions.
The feature is generally available in Gemini Enterprise starting Sep 24, 2026, one week after the Gemini 3.8 Live launch it builds on.
Live Avatar processes visual and audio inputs at the same time and replies with expressive audio and video, supporting multiple characters that each have a distinct look, voice, and expression style.
Asynchronous tool calling lets the avatar run tool calls and fetch data in the background while the spoken dialogue keeps going, so tasks like a hotel guest check-in do not pause the conversation.
Google positions the feature for enterprise virtual agents in customer service and interactive walkthroughs, per authors Shuo-yiin Chang and CJ Zheng of the Gemini Audio Team.
