Warner Bros greenlights Dune: Part Two for October 2023 release
- Warner Bros confirmed on Tuesday it will release Dune: Part Two in October 2023, following Denis Villeneuve's long-stated plan for a sequel.
- The first Dune film opened in North America with a $41 million debut weekend and has grossed almost $225 million globally against a production budget of about $165 million.
- Dune: Part Two will be released exclusively in theaters, unlike the first film which launched simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max.
- Casting for the sequel has not yet been announced, though the first film starred Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa.
- Villeneuve's adaptation follows Frank Herbert's 1955 novel and comes after failed or panned attempts by Alejandro Jodorowsky in the 1970s and David Lynch in 1984.
