Warner Bros greenlights Dune: Part Two for October 2023 release
Warner Bros confirmed on Tuesday it will release Dune: Part Two in October 2023, following Denis Villeneuve's long-stated plan for a sequel.
The first Dune film opened in North America with a $41 million debut weekend and has grossed almost $225 million globally against a production budget of about $165 million.
Dune: Part Two will be released exclusively in theaters, unlike the first film which launched simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max.
Casting for the sequel has not yet been announced, though the first film starred Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa.
Villeneuve's adaptation follows Frank Herbert's 1955 novel and comes after failed or panned attempts by Alejandro Jodorowsky in the 1970s and David Lynch in 1984.
