Dune: Part Three tickets in the rare 70mm IMAX format drew a roughly 1,500-foot line at AMC Lincoln Square 13, with some fans arriving at midnight before the box office opened.
The format plays at only about 25 US theaters, creating demand for a specific auditorium that differs from the wider availability of films such as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, according to Box Office Company editor Daniel Loria.
AMC said 73% of its tickets were bought online in 2025, up from 8.5% in 2013, but ticketing failures for The Odyssey led some fans to buy Dune tickets in person instead.
Online sales for The Odyssey 70mm IMAX screenings caused platform crashes and resale prices as high as $165, while AMC CEO Adam Aron said the chain had prepared for the Dune launch but was not ready.
