Fans seeking Dune: Part Three in 70mm IMAX formed a roughly 1,500-foot line at AMC Lincoln Square in Manhattan, with some arriving at midnight before the box office opened.
The rush follows a summer The Odyssey ticket sale that caused platform crashes and saw resellers list seats for $165, pushing some moviegoers to buy tickets in person.
AMC reported that 73% of tickets were bought online in 2025, compared with 8.5% in 2013, but scarce 70mm IMAX screenings have revived in-person ticket lines.
Only about 25 US theaters show 70mm IMAX, and Box Office Company executive Daniel Loria said demand centers on a specific auditorium and screening rather than broad access to the film.
AMC CEO Adam Aron said the company discussed and prepared for the Dune 3 launch internally, but "we weren't" ready for the demand.
