Denis Villeneuve tells SFX Magazine that Dune: Part Three, out December 18, is his most emotional and action-packed entry, calling it a thriller faster paced than the first two films.
The film adapts Frank Herbert's 1969 novel Dune Messiah and picks up 17 years after Dune: Part Two, with Timothee Chalamet's Paul Atreides now ruling as Emperor.
Villeneuve says he moved up production timing because of fan demand, stating he made the first two films for himself but this one "for the fans," and calls it a farewell to Paul and Chani after 10 years of making the trilogy.
Zendaya says her character Chani is caught in an "unrelenting" and unkind period of her life, having lost her youthful outlook while still fighting to protect her people.
Returning cast includes Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, and Josh Brolin, with Robert Pattinson joining as Scytale and Anya Taylor-Joy expanding her role as Alia.
