Dune: Part Three trailer unveiled at global IMAX event, Villeneuve calls final chapter a thriller
- Warner Bros debuted the Dune: Part Three trailer at a global event linking an IMAX theatre in Los Angeles, where Denis Villeneuve spoke, to IMAX venues in London, Berlin, Abu Dhabi, Chicago, Dallas, Toronto, Montreal and Mexico City.
- Robert Pattinson joins the cast as Scytale, a shape-shifting villain pushing for regime change against Paul Atreides, while Jason Momoa returns as Hayt, a simulacrum of Duncan Idaho.
- Villeneuve said he scrapped his planned break after waking at night with images, and wrote the script immediately rather than returning to Arrakis for nostalgia.
- The film adapts Dune: Messiah, which Villeneuve said Frank Herbert wrote partly in reaction to readers treating Paul as a purely heroic figure; Herbert intended the character to be far more ambiguous.
- Villeneuve describes the third chapter as a substantial departure with a different rhythm: more of a thriller, more intense and more emotional than the first two films, with a December cinema release.
