Villeneuve Says Dune 3 Will Be His Last Dune Film and Not a Trilogy
- Denis Villeneuve says Dune 3 will be the last Dune film he directs, and the third film is currently in the writing process.
- He calls the first two films a diptych that covers the first book, and says any third film will have its own identity rather than follow trilogy structure.
- Villeneuve told Vanity Fair that Dune Messiah is set 12 years after the first book, so the cast, including Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, would need to age up.
- He does not want the franchise to end and says he will not direct further films himself, but he wants seeds planted in Messiah so that someone else can continue the series.
