Villeneuve Says Dune Messiah Should Be His Last Dune Movie
- Denis Villeneuve told Time that Dune Messiah should be the last Dune movie for him, which fixes his plan at three films covering Frank Herbert's series.
- Villeneuve said the third film would wrap up the franchise, since the novels after the first sequel become 'more... esoteric.'
- Herbert wrote four more Dune novels in his lifetime, and Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson wrote fourteen more, so Legendary and Warner Bros. would still have plenty of source material if they continue.
- The article compares that material to Amazon's $250 million purchase of the TV rights to The Lord of the Rings, which it calls a smaller pool of source material than Dune offers.
