Villeneuve returns for Dune Part Three, saying he is tired of the material
- Denis Villeneuve is returning to direct Dune: Part Three (releasing in theaters this December) because he is tired of the material, not out of nostalgia, and he says he wants to be severe with the material so he is not complacent.
- Villeneuve was officially announced as director of the Dune reboot in February 2017 and wrote and directed all three Dune films, so he will have spent nearly a decade on the series by the time Part Three opens.
- In 2024 he told Time that Dune Messiah should be the last Dune movie for him, and he told Vanity Fair he will not adapt the later novels himself, though he is not closing the door to another filmmaker doing so.
- HBO Max has renewed the prequel series Dune: Prophecy for a second season, but the article notes it is unclear whether another Dune film will follow Part Three.
- Villeneuve's next project is directing the next James Bond film, which he described to Empire as a 'very powerful rocket' to pull him away from Arrakis.
