Warner Bros. Weighs Pushing 'Dune: Part Two' to 2024 From Nov. 3 Amid Dual Strikes
- Warner Bros. Film Group is strongly considering moving 'Dune: Part Two' to 2024 from its current Nov. 3 slot, with three people with knowledge of the discussions confirming the talks to Variety.
- The film is a co-production with Legendary Entertainment, and both companies must agree on any new date; Legendary had not been approached by Warner Bros. about a move as of the report.
- A second Warner Bros. source said releases are proceeding as originally planned with no formal discussions held, but noted the length of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes is unpredictable.
- SAG-AFTRA rules bar actors from promoting struck companies' past or future work, which would keep the cast (Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin) off the press circuit for a November release.
- Warner Bros. is also weighing new dates for 'The Color Purple' (Dec. 20) and 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' (Dec. 25), with the awards campaign for 'The Color Purple' at risk from a prolonged strike; Dune 2's November corridor includes 'The Marvels' (Nov. 10), the Hunger Games prequel (Nov. 17) and 'Napoleon' (Nov. 22).
