Dune: Part Three trailer debuts, setting up 18 December box office clash with Avengers: Doomsday
- Warner Bros released the first trailer for Dune: Part Three, the final film in Denis Villeneuve's trilogy, which opens in cinemas on 18 December and takes place 17 years after the events of Dune: Part Two, following Paul Atreides' rise as galactic emperor.
- The film is based on Frank Herbert's novel Dune Messiah, and the trailer shows Paul (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya) discussing baby names, Anya Taylor-Joy as Paul's sister Alia, and Jason Momoa returning as Hayt, a resurrection of Duncan Idaho.
- Its release date is the same as Avengers: Doomsday, which brings back Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and Chris Evans as Steve Rogers; every previous Avengers film made at least $1bn worldwide, and fans have dubbed the matchup "Dunesday".
- Dune: Part Three has already secured IMAX screens for its opening weekend in the US, suggesting Warner Bros has no plans to move the date, though either film could still shift before December.
- The first Dune made $402m worldwide in 2021 and Dune: Part Two made $714m in 2024; Warner Bros is also set to be acquired by Paramount in a deal worth about $111bn after Netflix withdrew its bid.
