Warner Bros greenlights Dune: Part Two for an October 2023 theatrical release
- Warner Bros announced on October 26, 2021 that it will release Dune: Part Two in October 2023, ending months of silence on whether the sequel would be made at all.
- The first film opened in North American theaters the prior week with $41 million in its opening weekend and has taken in almost $225 million worldwide against an estimated $165 million production budget.
- Part Two will play exclusively in theaters, unlike the first film, which Warner Bros released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max.
- Director Denis Villeneuve had said he always envisaged a second movie, and he has argued the two and a half hour first film should be seen on a big screen rather than at home.
- Casting for the second part has not been announced; the first film starred Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya and Jason Momoa, adapting Frank Herbert's 1955 novel after Alejandro Jodorowsky's abandoned 1970s attempt and David Lynch's critically panned 1984 version.
