'Dune: Prophecy' Renewed for Season 2 at HBO Days Before Season 1 Finale
- HBO renewed Dune: Prophecy for Season 2, announcing it during a virtual press conference on Thursday, Dec. 19, a few days before the Season 1 finale airs Sunday, Dec. 22.
- The series is a Dune prequel set more than 10,000 years before the events of Denis Villeneuve's films, following the origins of the Bene Gesserit, the secretive order that influences Arrakis politics behind the scenes.
- It is inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, and centers on Bene Gesserit leader Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams), ancestors of the House Harkonnen from the films.
- Alison Schapker is showrunner and executive producer; Diane Ademu-John co-developed the series and executive produces, Anna Foerster executive produced and directed multiple episodes including the first, and the show is co-produced by HBO and Legendary Television.
- The cast includes Mark Strong as Emperor Javicco Corrino, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina as Princess Ynez, and Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Tabu, Charithra Chandran and Yerin Ha, among others.
