Dune: Part Three CinemaCon Panel Screens First Seven Minutes, Villeneuve Calls Final Film a 17-Years-Later Redemption Thriller
- Denis Villeneuve brought Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and Jason Momoa to CinemaCon on Tuesday night and unspooled the first seven minutes of Dune: Part Three, the third and final film in his trilogy.
- Villeneuve said the story picks up 17 years later in "a very different world" where Paul Atreides' nightmares became reality, calling the film "a thriller, action-packed, more intense and definitely more emotional" and "a redemption story" whose heartbeat is a now-broken love story between Paul and Chani.
- The opening clip shows Fremen ships sailing through dark, gray, foggy air and crashing onto a raining planet, chanting "God be with us" before battle as lasers obliterate many of them; an extended preview has Momoa's Duncan Idaho telling Paul he is "way beyond redemption."
- Momoa's Duncan Idaho, who died in Dune: Part One, returns through Ghola technology, and Chalamet said Paul has "become his worst vision" while struggling to protect those he loves and become "the all-powerful dark emperor of the universe."
- Villeneuve told the crowd it was "emotional to say farewell to Paul and Chani in the desert," estimating the trilogy took "like 10 years of our lives," and Zendaya said Chani's "youthful outlook is completely gone."
